PLANNING A MARQUEE WEDDING? Choosing your marquee PLANNING A MARQUEE WEDDING?
Choosing your marquee company is one of the first big decisions you will make if you having a marquee wedding. But before you do that, there’s plenty to think about.
I love a beautiful roofline and a gorgeous interior, but I also want to know how that marquee will work for your wedding.
Will it suit your garden? What flooring is included? Is there enough time for the build and decorating? And do those two quotes actually cover the same things?
As a marquee wedding planner, these are the details I work through with my couples. I help find the right company for their setting, style and budget, join the site visit and ask the questions they might not know to ask.
Then I coordinate the build with the other suppliers, bringing together the practical plans and the design to create a wedding that feels completely theirs.
If you’re planning a marquee wedding, my blog shares what to look for, what to ask and what to check before signing.
Read ‘How to Choose a Marquee Company for Your Wedding’ on my website under Blog. Save this post for when you start making your enquiries.

YOUR FAVOURITE THINGS I often work with clients w YOUR FAVOURITE THINGS
I often work with clients who struggle to know where to start with their wedding design. They know they want it to look beautiful, but choosing the colours, fabrics and all the details can feel a little overwhelming.
So I’ll often sit down with them at home and we will just start chatting about what they love around them. Is there a favourite painting? A fabric they chose for the sitting room? A piece of jewellery they’ve always loved wearing or or a hotel they wish they could move into!
These details tell me so much about their taste, even when they’re convinced they don’t know where to start.
And this is where I love getting everything out on the table.
Fabric samples, ribbons, colour swatches, paper textures and a little sparkle. Putting them alongside one another, feeling the different materials and seeing which combinations make us both say, “Yes, that’s it!”
Pinterest and online mood boards are useful, but there’s something wonderfully satisfying about holding the actual linen, laying a ribbon against it and seeing how the colours work together in daylight. You start to get a real feel for how your wedding could look.
My role as your wedding planner and designer is to take those thoughts and favourite things and bring them together. To suggest a combination you might never have considered, know when a pattern needs a quieter companion, and carry those decisions through to the flowers, table linen, stationery and lighting.
For a marquee wedding, that might even mean taking inspiration from the house or garden, creating a lovely connection between home and the celebration outside.
You don’t need to arrive with a finished vision. A few of your favourite things are plenty for us to begin with.
What would you bring to our design table? A fabric, a favourite colour, or something completely unexpected?

IS A MARQUEE WEDDING RIGHT FOR YOU? I love a marq IS A MARQUEE WEDDING RIGHT FOR YOU?
I love a marquee wedding. The freedom, the creativity and the fact that you can create something completely personal to you is very hard to beat.
But I’ll also be the first to say that a marquee wedding isn’t right for everyone.
You’re essentially creating a wedding venue from the ground up. And when I say from the ground up, I mean it. Power, water, loos, catering, lighting, flooring, access, parking, weather plans and all the other things that a traditional venue already has in place need to be considered.
For the right couple though, that’s part of the appeal.
You might have a family home or beautiful piece of land that means something to you. Perhaps you want the freedom to choose every supplier yourself, create a completely bespoke design or turn the wedding into a whole weekend rather than just one day.
And that’s when marquee weddings really come into their own.
They give you an extraordinary amount of freedom, but with that freedom comes a lot more planning. They’re also not necessarily the cheaper option, something I think is really important to understand from the beginning.
And this is also where having an experienced marquee wedding planner on your team really matters.
There are a lot of moving parts, and many of the decisions you make early on have a knock-on effect later. Having someone who understands both the logistics and the design means you can enjoy all that wonderful creative freedom without having to become an expert in marquees, generators, catering tents and wet-weather plans along the way.
So, is a marquee wedding right for you?
I’ve shared my thoughts, and some very honest advice as a marquee wedding planner, in my latest blog.
If a marquee wedding is something you’re considering, it’s well worth a read before you make any big decisions.

PRETTY PLANNING One of the parts of my job as a PRETTY PLANNING
One of the parts of my job as a planner that I love most is the design.
Yes, there are an awful lot of spreadsheets, schedules, supplier emails and logistics involved in planning a wedding, but there is also this side of it.
Taking lots of ideas and turning them into something that feels completely personal to the couple.
For this Priory Bay wedding we played with pinks, pattern and lots of texture. Soft pink linen, woven placemats, printed napkins, gold cutlery, ribbons tied around the glasses and beautiful loose flowers in different little vessels. And I absolutely loved the gluggle jugs dotted along the tables.
Nothing needed to be too matching or perfect. In fact, I think it is often the slightly unexpected details that give a wedding its personality.
Then there were the fabulous central floral installation, which drew your eye upwards and made a real feature of the incredible structure of the room.
This is very much how I approach design with my clients. I help them work out what they actually like, pull together the colours, textures, flowers, furniture, linen and all those smaller details, and importantly make sure it works as one overall look.
For me, planning and design go hand in hand. It’s not just about making sure everything happens when it should. I want it to look utterly gorgeous too.

DRESS CODE I’m often asked what the dress code sh DRESS CODE
I’m often asked what the dress code should be for a marquee wedding, particularly when the marquee is at a private home, in a garden or even in the middle of a field.
And it’s a very good question.
Because the setting doesn’t necessarily dictate the dress code. A marquee wedding can be wonderfully relaxed or beautifully formal, it really depends on the celebration you’re creating.
Are we talking floaty dresses, fun shirts and no ties? Or suits, statement dresses and a fabulous hat?
Then there’s the practical side. Stilettos and grass are rarely the best of friends, and however glorious the weather might look, this is still Britain. A jacket or wrap for later is never a bad idea.
The dress code should reflect the feel of the day and, importantly, give guests enough guidance that they’re not standing in front of their wardrobe wondering what on earth to wear.
So whether you’re deciding what to tell your guests, or you’ve received an invitation and aren’t quite sure what’s expected, take a read of my latest blog.
The link is in my bio.
I’m a firm believer in dressing up for a wedding. How often do we get the chance these days? So wear the fabulous dress, put on the great suit and, if the occasion calls for it, absolutely wear the hat.

AND THEN THE SUN CAME OUT After a day of rain, an AND THEN THE SUN CAME OUT
After a day of rain, and I mean rain, the clouds finally cleared for golden hour for Mr and Mrs G's end of Summer wedding.
I’ve just had the first few photographs back from this gorgeous end-of-summer marquee wedding and I'm loving what I see.
We had to grab the sunny moments when we could and capture this very smiley couple in those precious minutes.
It is a reminder that a rainy wedding day doesn’t mean you won’t get those beautiful outdoor photographs you’d hoped for. Sometimes you just need to be ready to take your moment when it appears.
And goodness this one was certainly worth waiting for.

SEPTEMBER DESIGN I loved helping plan this Septem SEPTEMBER DESIGN
I loved helping plan this September wedding. Mainly because there was no holding back on the colour.
The days were still warm, the fields were golden from harvest, but instead of leaning into the expected autumn palette, we went straight for colour.
Hot pink dahlias, soft blush roses, deep berry tones, glorious garden greens and wonderfully wild textures. Even the bride’s dress was full of colour, texture and sparkle.
That’s something I love about wedding design. The season should influence the design, not dictate it.
A September wedding doesn’t have to mean rust, orange and dried grasses. A Spring wedding doesn’t have to be pastel. Winter certainly doesn’t have to mean white, silver and a scattering of pine cones.
For me, it’s about taking what the season gives you and then having some fun with it.
Here, all that colour against the September fields just worked. It felt vibrant and fantastic and completely right for this colourful couple.
And then as daylight disappeared the night was lit up with bold lighting taking colour through the trees and a striking marquee full of fun loving guests dancing away.
And frankly, any wedding that ends with smoke bombs in shocking pink, purple and orange is going to have my vote.
Plan for the season, absolutely. Just don’t let the season plan your wedding for you.
