When couples ask me about historic wedding venues in Oxfordshire, an Ardington House wedding always comes to mind. As an Oxfordshire wedding planner, I’ve had the pleasure of working with many beautiful venues across the region, but there’s something truly special about this Grade II listed Georgian manor that keeps drawing me back.

What makes an Ardington House wedding stand out
Sitting in the heart of a picturesque village, Ardington House offers a wonderful combination of beauty, elegance, and cosy warmth. Yes, it’s a stunning historic property, but what really sets it apart is how incredibly relaxing and welcoming it feels. There’s a real home-from-home atmosphere here that isn’t something you always get with historic venues. You’re not just hiring a grand house, you’re hiring a home that will very much feel yours for the weekend.
The flexibility offered here is remarkable. With both the house and the lakeside marquee at your disposal, you have so much freedom to shape your wedding weekend in your own way. Whether you’re dreaming of an intimate indoor ceremony or a large celebration outside in the gardens or marquee, there are countless combinations of spaces to work with. It’s the kind of venue that works beautifully whether you’re planning something classic and romantic or bold and creative.

How your Ardington House Wedding could look
One of the things I love most about Ardington House is how the layout naturally lends itself to a relaxed, unhurried wedding day or weekend.
As an Oxfordshire wedding planner, it’s a dream to work with a venue that’s both well-equipped and flexible. There’s a real sense of support and happiness surrounding weddings held at Ardington House. The team, headed up by Charlie, are warm, responsive, and genuinely invested in each couple’s day, which makes collaboration a real pleasure.

Getting Ready
The morning usually starts in the beautiful bridal suite with its huge windows and elegant styling – perfect for getting ready with your closest friends and family. The views from the bedrooms are breathtaking, creating a calm and peaceful setting. The rest of the house offers plenty of room for both sides of the wedding party to prepare separately, which is a big bonus for wedding day logistics.
The Ceremony
Ardington House is licensed for civil ceremonies throughout the grounds in various beautiful settings. The unique Island Temple, surrounded by water and pretty weeping willows, is particularly special and can accommodate up to 200 guests. For something more intimate, there’s the elegant Imperial Hall within the house, or the riverside marquee serves as a wonderful wet weather option. For religious ceremonies, the beautiful Holy Trinity church sits right adjacent to the house in the village.

Drinks Reception
After your ceremony, guests can enjoy drinks on the front lawn or by the water while photographs are being taken – and there are so many gorgeous nooks for capturing those special moments. The main house is available too, just in case it rains. The lawns provide the perfect location for garden games, surrounded by fabulous trees that offer plenty of shelter if the weather is hot.
Dinner and Dancing
The lakeside marquee is where dinner and dancing take place, and it’s one of the prettiest settings I’ve seen. Large panoramic windows give a full view of the river, the island, and the house. The marquee has solid wooden flooring with enough space to create separate areas for dining, dancing, and lounging. Come evening, the whole estate feels like your own private world – it’s truly magical. Fingers and Forks are the preferred caterers at the house, and they offer an extraordinary service and menus that never disappoint.
Music typically ends around 11:30pm, with guests not staying at the house asked to leave by midnight.
The flow of the spaces really supports weddings of all styles. You can create distinct moments in various settings – from getting ready through the ceremony, drinks, dinner, and dancing – all without the day feeling disjointed or separate. The practical touches, such as good access for suppliers, the permanent marquee, and on-site accommodation, help everything run smoothly behind the scenes.
What’s included in your Ardington House wedding
Venue capacity
Ardington House is incredibly versatile when it comes to size. The marquee comfortably seats up to 200 guests, though the average tends to be around 120. With the use of a reveal curtain included in the marquee, the space works beautifully for weddings ranging from 60 to 200 guests. The house itself can host smaller ceremonies and celebrations too, which is ideal for couples who want an indoor option with elegance and intimacy.
Stay with your loved ones
For a truly memorable experience, you can book the whole house on an exclusive private rental basis midweek or for a weekend. The house has 12 bedrooms – mainly doubles with some twins – sleeping up to 23 guests, or 25 with children. It’s set up for all ages with a playroom for children (complete with a cinema screen and toys) and quiet spaces for the older generation in the drawing room, music room, and snug.
Incredible gardens
It’s also a wonderfully creative space. The gardens, lake, marquee, and house interiors offer an extraordinary amount of styling opportunities, allowing couples to really express their personal style LINK: https://honourandpop.co.uk/wedding-stylist/ alongside Ardington’s own natural beauty.

The extensive gardens and parkland offer an outdoor swimming pool (heated in summer months), a tennis court, lawn games, fly fishing on the river, and bicycles. There’s even a popular village pub by the gates to the house, and for those who need it, a helicopter landing site.

What’s included is generous:
- exclusive use of the house and grounds across a three-day hire period
- time to set up the day before and wind down with family and friends the day after.
- the marquee, tables and chairs, power, loos, and accommodation.
It’s a complete, immersive setting designed with weddings in mind.
Please note that the venue isn’t generally available for marquee weddings from
December through March, although indoor winter weddings remain possible.
Why I love working with Ardington House as an Oxfordshire wedding planner
I love Ardington House as a venue because it has so much to offer. To me, it’s a classic dreamy location – very Bridgerton in its appeal. The staff go out of their way to welcome couples and their guests, encouraging everyone to use it as their own. Because Ardington is still essentially a family home, it gives off a very comfortable and reassuring vibe of being at home.

It’s the kind of place where magic happens naturally, and where your wedding will feel uniquely, authentically yours.
